nuit blanche saskatoon

submission deadline: April 23, 2017 @ 11:59 PM

Now in its fourth year, Nuit Blanche Saskatoon is a free, night-time arts festival that showcases and celebrates art and culture. Overtaking multiple venues and city streets in Saskatoon's Riversdale, Broadway, and Downtown neighbourhoods, the festival will feature projections, sculptural installations, performance, music, theatre, and other forms of contemporary art that will wow festival-goers late into the evening. Not only is this festival a chance for citizens of all ages to engage with and enjoy Saskatoon’s thriving arts scene, it offers the unique experience of exploring Saskatoon's public spaces late into the night in a safe and fun environment.

Nuit Blanche Saskatoon is currently seeking submissions for our 2017 festival. In contrast to previous years, this year's festival will not have a specific theme. Rather, we encourage submissions that incorporate the use of spectacle and light while encouraging viewers to see our city differently and to explore areas they may not have entered before. Nuit Blanche festivals across Canada and internationally bring the experience of the arts into the public space, showcasing culture as a vital part of our lives and diverse communities. As such we encourage proposals that consider public spaces and Saskatoon’s urban landscape, engaging with diverse audiences.

Nuit Blanche is committed to exploring emerging practices that speak to, reflect, and encourage dialogue in our culturally diverse community. Nuit Blanche pays artist fees at or above CARFAC rates.

locations

For the first time, Nuit Blanche Saskatoon's festival site will include Broadway and Downtown, in addition to Riversdale. While applicants are encouraged to consider how their work functions within specific sites and to suggest possible locations, we are open to submissions that leave placement to the discretion of the Programming Committee.

In Riversdale, 20th Street will be closed from Idylwyld to Avenue D. Projects can be proposed for the street or to interact with the spaces of particular buildings (indoors or outdoors). We are also encouraging applications for Victoria Park and Riverlanding.

In Downtown, the specific location has yet to be determined and as such can potentially be responsive to project proposals. We are suggesting as possible sites 20th Street from 2nd Avenue to 4th Avenue, as well as 2nd Avenue and 3rd Avenue, each from 20th Street to 21st Street. Streets may be closed as needed by the projects proposed. As well, Riverlanding near the Remai Arts Centre and Remai Modern serves as another possibility.

In Broadway, Broadway Avenue will not be closed. Rather, we are encouraging projects that use as their site side streets or alley ways (some of which will be closed dependent on project requirements), as well as projects that work with storefronts or buildings (indoors or outdoors) along Broadway from 12th Street to 9th Street.
