Gabby Da Silva

A recent participant in Remai Modern’s RBC Sustained Artist Mentorship program, Gabby Da Silva’s practice spans performance, video and community-based work, often shaped by her own lived experiences as a disabled artist of Portuguese descent.

“with each slice, I send my love to you”

Gabby Da Silva’s recent performance works explore care and nourishment through rituals of preparing and sharing food. Join us for the culmination of her program with her durational performance, with each slice, I send my love to you, a tribute to her grandmother, gardening and the labour of food preparation. “As a young child, I dreaded the days arriving at casa dos meus avós and seeing the buckets of
fresh beans throughout the living room; knowing a day of labour was up ahead. But now, more grown than ever before, nothing comforts me like that nostalgic notion of cutting beans on a living room floor. For those who taught me, thank you.”

The performance takes place at Remai Modern on Saturday, September 20 from 7-9 PM and
Sunday, September 21 from NOON to 2 PM.
