ALDENEIL
Aldeneil Española Jr. is a queer, first-generation Canadian-Filipinx artist living and working on Treaty 6 Territory in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. A graduate of the Bachelor of Fine Arts – Studio Arts (Honours) program at the University of Saskatchewan, Aldeneil's practice examines identity as a living, accumulative process that is shaped by the ongoing negotiations of place, gender, and time.
“Patuloy”
Patuloy is the act of continuing. Through the transformation of recycled materials, this work examines how brown bodies are positioned within systems of labour and value. Hand sewing becomes the methodology here — slow, repetitive, and intimate — a kind of labour that resists industrial logic while honouring what remains. Rest and movement are part of this labour too: the body pausing, the body stretching, insisting that care for oneself is not separate from the work but essential to it. Someone always picks up the pieces in a system that is falling apart. In gathering what has been discarded and stitching it into form, Patuloy refuses disposal. It insists on continuation as both method and meaning.
