Our CUrator’s Statement:
Living In between
Nuit Blanche Saskatoon began in 2014 and has grown over the past twelve years to activate multiple areas across the city. The vision has always been to transform public spaces with light-based art installations and celebrate creativity during the night. From 7 PM to midnight, Saskatoon becomes a vibrant stage—alive with performance, interaction, and imagination.
In 2025, our featured artists come from across Saskatchewan and Canada, responding to the theme “Living in Between.” This theme reflects the transitional nature of our time and the beauty found in the spaces between cultures, languages, colors, and environments. It invites artists and audiences to explore the in-between—between mediums, stories, generations, and communities. Through installations, performances, interactive art, and screenings, artists will visualize connection, relationship, and perspective with the public on September 20th, 2025.
This year’s programming stretches across the city. Artists will set up artwork across the city, from Broadway through Victoria School, River Landing, to Downtown. On Broadway you’ll experience printmaking workshops, interactive installation, film-based performances, digital displays, and a youth hub showcasing emerging talent. River Landing will host interactive performances, flower installations glowing in the dark, and language-based projects at the Amphitheatre. There’s even a matchmaking corner near the ice cream shop to romanticize the night. At the Alt Hotel, expect screenings and a laser show, while Remai Modern will feature three artworks across its atrium, studio, and patio.
We’re excited to bring the Dance Stage to 2nd Avenue this year, activating downtown with contemporary dance, DJ sets, drawing installations, and a poet tent. And in Riversdale—where Nuit Blanche first began—we’re collaborating with PAVED Arts, AKA Artist-Run Centre, and Nefelibata Arts and Crafts to reactivate 20th Street’s rich art scene.
A special section of this year’s festival is Nuit Blanche Eve, now expanded to two nights: September 19 and 20. This event is dedicated to newcomer, international, and local student-artists, hosted at Gather Local Market. Including newcomer artists is a meaningful gesture for Nuit Blanche Saskatoon. It reflects our commitment to accessibility, cultural exchange, and community-building. These artists bring unique perspectives, diverse experiences, and unique voices that enrich the festival and help us reimagine what public art can be. Nuit Blanche Eve offers a safe, welcoming space for emerging artists to share their work and connect with the public.
The 2025 festival, themed Living in Between, celebrates the diversity and creativity within our city, creating space for dialogue, reflection, and belonging. By including newcomer artists, we honor the richness of lived experiences and offer a platform for voices that are often underrepresented. Their participation strengthens our collective story and deepens our understanding of community. Nuit Blanche Saskatoon is more than just an event; it's a celebration of our collective identity and the power of art to transform our world.
